Our own list, in order of our three scores: food, stay and price. 9 of the ten hold a Michelin star, they are spread over 7 provinces, and the most affordable is De Nederlanden, approx. € 380 for two.

A box bed, a garden room and the wine simply included: this is where we keep coming back.
Why we go This is where we have been most often, and every time it all comes together: the house, the box bed and the garden room, the kitchen, the people and above all the price, with wine, water and coffee simply included. That is why the borg is number one.
Five-star castle estate hotel with two-star restaurant

Why we go Braeken used to cook at Château Wittem and has built something special again in a converted barn on this estate. After dinner, your room is on the same estate by the Maas.
Starred restaurant with boutique hotel on the river Vecht
Oysters by the Vecht, then simply up to bed.
Why we go Wilco and Caroline Berends in a building from 1680, with the lift bridge in view. We come for the French cooking, oysters above all, and stay for the calm rooms full of Dutch design.

Why we go Robert Levels cooks here looking out over the baroque gardens and the Jeker valley. And since 2024 you no longer have to go home after dinner.

Why we go On the Amstel since 1896 and owned by the Heineken family for decades. We go for Flore, where Bas van Kranen cooks to the rhythm of the Dutch micro-seasons.

Why we go A country house from 1751 in a park by Zocher, where kitchen, cellar and bed are close together. We come here so we needn't watch the clock at dinner.

Why we go A city palace with roots in the fifteenth century, right beside the Prinsentuin. It's where we go when we want a night in town that doesn't end with hunting for a taxi.

Why we go A thatched farmhouse in Giethoorn where Martin Kruithof has been cooking at the top level since the nineties. What draws us is that steady hand, and a night with the kitchen garden next door.

Why we go A stately country house near Beetsterzwaag with two serious kitchens on one estate. This is what we choose when we'd rather not choose between a big night and an easy one.
