Starred restaurant with boutique hotel on the river Vecht
De Nederlanden
Oysters by the Vecht, then simply up to bed.

From our diary
Dining and staying at De Nederlanden
The rooms are the first thing we think of at De Nederlanden. Eleven of them, calm and minimal, inspired by Scandinavia and Japan and furnished entirely with Dutch design. In a building from 1680 you might have expected dark oak beams and heavy curtains. It went the other way, and it works.
The house sits on the Vecht in Vreeland, between Amsterdam and Utrecht, with a terrace looking out over the river and the lift bridge. Chef Wilco Berends cooks French food with produce from the region and the season. The oyster dishes are the house speciality, and we rarely say no to oysters. Caroline Berends looks after the guests and Johan Kragtwijk, as maître-sommelier, takes care of the wine. For an evening by the water with a bed under the same roof, we struggle to think of anywhere better along the Vecht. If you like plenty of space and a grand lobby, you'll find it small. We'd call it manageable.
Good to know
There is no lift, so if stairs are difficult, talk to them about the best room when you book.
