Culinary country estate with starred restaurant and suites
Parc Broekhuizen
Dinner from the estate's kitchen garden, a bed in the manor house.

From our diary
Dining and staying at Parc Broekhuizen
Years of neglect, and then a second life after all. The main house at Broekhuizen burned down in 1906 and was rebuilt straight away in Louis XVI style. After years standing empty and a thorough restoration, it opened as a boutique hotel in 2016. The estate itself is far older: its first known owner dates from 1408, and the park was laid out by Zocher the elder.
There are two ways to eat here. At Restaurant Voltaire, Falco Lens and Ivanildo Kamperveen cook, with maître Julian Schweigl and sommelier Nils Snitselaar out front. Bistro LOF, run by chef Zoë Jonker, cooks with the harvest from the estate's historic kitchen garden. That is a strong argument as far as we're concerned: the vegetables come from their own soil. You sleep in a suite or loft in the main house, or in the coach house, which has a room and a panoramic suite. If you like a house with a past and a kitchen that harvests close to home, you're in the right place.
Good to know
The rooms vary a lot, from lofts to a panoramic suite, and some are in the coach house, so ask in advance exactly where you'll be sleeping.
