Two-star restaurant with suites
De Lindenhof
Out on the water in the chef's boat first, then dinner.

From our diary
Dining and staying at De Lindenhof
Martin Kruithof once worked at Im Schiffchen in Düsseldorf, one of Germany's great names, and that background explains a lot. De Lindenhof has been in the Michelin Guide since 1996, and the recognition has only grown since. Marjan de Jonge is host, and Pieter-Jan Kruithof looks after the wine as maître-sommelier.
The farmhouse has a thatched roof, an English garden and its own kitchen garden, with the lodge rooms right beside it. There are fourteen places to stay in all: senior and junior suites, lodge rooms, a Chef's Cottage and a luxury water villa. The chef has his own boat for trips through Giethoorn and the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. As far as we're concerned, that's the way to do it: an afternoon on the water, then dinner, then just across the garden to bed. If you only know Giethoorn from its summer crowds, this shows you another side of it.
Good to know
The water villa isn't on the grounds but at Waterresort Bodelaeke, so ask for a lodge room or suite if you'd rather just cross the garden after dinner.
