Boutique hotel in a historic city palace with Michelin-starred restaurant
Prinsenhof & Restaurant Nassau
Dinner in a prince's old bedchambers. You couldn't make it up.

From our diary
Dining and staying at Prinsenhof & Restaurant Nassau
It starts around 1436 as a house of the Brethren of the Common Life. In 1569 it becomes a bishop's palace, and later the stadtholders of Orange-Nassau live here. Quite a pedigree for a hotel. After a major renovation that began in 2012, you sleep in one of 34 rooms and suites, next to the walled Prinsentuin garden and a few minutes from the Martini Tower.
Restaurant Nassau occupies what were once the prince of Nassau's bedchambers, looking out over that garden. This autumn Michelin brought good news, the first for Groningen's city centre since 2012, and we're pleased for the city. For something more relaxed there's Brasserie Prinsenhof, which also does breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. What appeals to us most is how easy it all is: dinner in a palace, bed in the same palace, and in the morning you're straight out into town.
Good to know
Being a listed building, it has no air conditioning, so on warm summer nights the window stays open.
