Restaurant with rooms in a historic corn mill
Restaurant de Molenaar
Dinner downstairs in a windmill, bed upstairs. That will do nicely.

From our diary
Dining and staying at Restaurant de Molenaar
Choosing from a menu is overrated. At De Molenaar you don't have to: Martin Kooijker serves surprise menus only, built on French foundations with influences from further afield. He previously cooked at De Heeren van Harinxma and at Basiliek in Harderwijk, and took over the restaurant in 2016. Since 2023 he has run it together with host Lauret Logtenberg.
The restaurant sits on the ground floor of the Hunsingo corn mill, built in 1855, by the water in Onderdendam. Upstairs, in what used to be the grain store, there are two rooms. That's it. So after pudding all you have to do is go upstairs, and in the morning breakfast arrives in a basket from the local baker. If you're after a big hotel with a lobby and a bar, this isn't it. For us that's precisely the charm: an evening in a windmill and nobody left with the drive home.
Good to know
There are only two rooms and you eat whatever the chef cooks, so book early and mention any dietary needs in advance.
