Boutique hotel with starred restaurant in a former orphanage
Weeshuis Gouda
An old orphanage you'll gladly stay the night in these days.

From our diary
Dining and staying at Weeshuis Gouda
A room category called Tiny & Comfy. A hotel willing to name a room like that clearly doesn't take itself too seriously, and we like that. Weeshuis occupies the former town orphanage of Gouda, in the heart of the old centre next to the Jeruzalem chapel. Sharon and Lennart van Gastel have fitted it with 25 rooms and suites, from the little Tiny & Comfy up to a Junior Suite and a Family Suite.
For dinner we head to LIZZ, where chef Remco Kuijpers cooks French food with Asian influences and sommelier Martijn Mulder looks after the wine. It's a pairing that makes us curious precisely because it isn't the safe option. And if you're in no hurry to leave the next day, COCO, the house bar, does breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. The hotel is a member of Relais & Châteaux. A town address, then, with the streets of Gouda on your doorstep rather than woodland.
Good to know
Room sizes vary a lot, so if you want space, look beyond Tiny & Comfy.
