Castle with two-star restaurant and suites
Kasteel Gemert & Restaurant GEM.
Surinamese-Hindustani spices in the gatehouse, and a night in the tower.

From our diary
Dining and staying at Kasteel Gemert & Restaurant GEM.
1391. That's how old the castle is where Soenil Bahadoer now cooks. It was built for the Teutonic Order and later served, among other things, as a merchant's house and a convent. Since 1 July 2025 the gatehouse has been home to GEM., and anyone who remembers Bahadoer from De Lindehof in Nuenen will have a fair idea what's coming. Surinamese-Hindustani spices, French technique and Dutch seasonal produce. Not fusion for the sake of it, simply who he is, and we're keen to taste it.
You walk to the restaurant through the kitchen garden. To stay the night there's the Donjon Tower Suite or the Garden Suite, and that's all for now. A full castle hotel is on the way, but exactly what form it takes and when, we'll wait and see. So for the moment it's small. To us that's a good reason to go now, before there are seventy rooms around it.
Good to know
Dine & Stay, with dinner, a night and breakfast in one, is only offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and with just two suites it books up quickly.
