Boutique hotel and restaurant in a medieval monastery
Broederenklooster
Where the friars once slept, we're very happy to sleep now.

From our diary
Dining and staying at Broederenklooster
There could have been twenty-two rooms. There are fifteen, because otherwise historic details would have had to go. A decision like that tells us more about a place than any brochure. The rooms are in the former dormitory of the Broederenklooster, where the friars themselves used to sleep.
The complex dates back to the thirteenth century. In 1293 Margaret of Dampierre gave the Rolzaal and the unfinished Ridderzaal to the friars. The chapter house with its fourteenth-century Gothic arches, the refectory of 1485 and the medieval wine cellar all survive. Owner Anton de Lange began turning it into a hotel and restaurant in 2019. The kitchen belongs to Niels van Dooijeweert, who cooks classic French with a modern twist, and from the open kitchen you can watch him at work. We like food where you can see who's making it. Not a design hotel, then, but old walls with a good kitchen inside.
Good to know
With only fifteen rooms it fills up quickly; midweek there is a separate menu called 'Breek de week'.
