Town hotel with restaurant, grand café and tower rooms
't Voorhuys
A night in an old water tower in the middle of Emmeloord.

From our diary
Dining and staying at 't Voorhuys
Let's be honest: you don't go to Emmeloord for a tasting menu. You do go for a tower room. Next to 't Voorhuys stands the Poldertoren, built as a water tower in the late fifties and still the emblem of the Noordoostpolder. It holds six rooms, four of them suites. Sleeping in a water tower takes very little persuasion where we're concerned.
Downstairs the hotel is exactly what it claims to be: Emmeloord's living room. The grand café on De Deel runs all day, from coffee and cake and lunch through to dinner, with Twan and Renée keeping it all together. There are nine beers on tap and another twenty-five in bottles, plus a house beer, Frederiks Blond. An evening at the bar and then up to bed is our idea of a good night in the polder. If you fancy a look around the next day, Schokland and Weerribben-Wieden are close by, and so is the A6.
Good to know
If you want the tower, ask for a tower room specifically: most of the rooms are in the main building.
